Pipework and vessel wall thickness inspection

Corrosion is a rate and the next inspection date should come from it. A fixed interval is either too soon for most lines or too late for the one that matters.

partly
part of the task converts to a condition and part stays on the calendar
Ultrasonic thickness gauge at marked points; permanently installed thickness sensors or corrosion probes on critical lines
how the condition is observed
Fluid systems
asset class
Condition that replaces the interval
Wall thickness approaching the minimum allowable by the corrosion rate calculated from the last two readings, or a corrosion probe showing the rate rising
Reading that proves it
Wall thickness at marked points (mm), corrosion rate (mm per year), probe reading
Why the interval stays
The measurement converts to a rate-based interval; where the pipework is part of a registered pressure system the written scheme still sets a maximum interval.
Evidence an auditor accepts
Thickness record per point with the minimum allowable, the rate and the next inspection date derived from the rate
First move
Mark and photograph every measurement point; a reading from a slightly different spot is a different number.
