Forklift thorough examination and pre-use check
The pre-use check is a legal duty every shift and telematics turns it from a paper pad into a timestamped log. The examination interval does not move.
- Condition that replaces the interval
- Partly. Telematics log hours, impacts, hydraulic pressure and battery state and can enforce the pre-use checklist at key-on; the thorough examination by a competent person stays on its statutory interval.
- Reading that proves it
- Hour meter, impact events, mast chain elongation, hydraulic pressure, brake test, pre-use checklist completion
- Why the interval stays
- Thorough examination at twelve months (six where people are lifted) is set by LOLER in the UK; OSHA 1910.178 requires a documented pre-use inspection each shift in the US; Australian state regulations require periodic inspection of registered plant.
- Evidence an auditor accepts
- Thorough examination report per truck, the electronic pre-use checklist log per shift, and the hour-based service record
- First move
- Switch the pre-use check to the truck's own key-on checklist; a paper pad filled in on Friday for the week is the finding every auditor makes.
