Fire door inspection
Wedged doors are the most common finding on any fire inspection and a door-position sensor sees them within seconds. The seal and gap check still needs eyes and a gauge.
- Condition that replaces the interval
- Partly. A door-position sensor can report a fire door wedged or held open; gaps, seals and closer force still need a person with a gauge.
- Reading that proves it
- Door closes fully from any position, gap under 4 mm at the frame, seals intact, closer operates, signage present
- Why the interval stays
- Quarterly checks on fire doors in communal areas are set by the Fire Safety (England) Regulations; elsewhere the general duty to maintain fire precautions makes a documented periodic check the accepted minimum.
- Evidence an auditor accepts
- Fire door check record per door with the gap measurement and defects raised, and the closure of each defect
- First move
- Number every fire door and record the check per door. A record per floor does not satisfy an inspector.
